Dear colleagues,
this is the first announcement for a meeting of the italian community involved in solar and heliospheric physics to be held in Catania, Italy on September 4– 6, 2013.
The purpose of the meeting is to provide a forum for the italian scientists in the field (some of which are abroad) to consolidate on-going collaborations and establish new ones, for example in future projects such as Solar Orbiter
and EST, where several of us are involved.
The meeting is obviously open to scientists from all the countries!
For organisational aspects, we would appreciate the participants to preregister by the end of April.
Please send an e-mail to italian.sohe2013@oact.inaf.it indicating your name and affiliation, to express your interest in participating.
Deadlines:
30 April – pre-registration
15 June – registration and abstract submission
We encourage participants to focus their presentations on possible ways to collaborate on future projects, from an instrumental, observational and theoretical perspective. We encourage young researchers to participate. We plan to organise a few sessions on the following general themes, allowing time for discussions during round tables:
1) What are the processes that lead to the generation of the solar magnetic field, and how is its energy transported from small to large scales and from the photosphere through the chromosphere and corona?
2) How does solar variability on short and long-term timescales affect the Earth environment and the heliosphere? In particular, which physical
processes drive solar eruptions (flares, CMEs) and the generation/acceleration of the solar energetic particles (SEPs)?
3) What physical mechanisms accelerate and heat the solar wind? How can we combine in-situ with remote-sensing observations and modelling to make progress?
4) Which observations and instruments from the ground and from space are planned and which are needed to address some of the many long-standing unanswered questions in solar physics?
