***************************************************************************
The 7th European Space Weather Week, 15-19th November 2010, Bruges/Brugge, Belgium.
Second Announcement and Call for Papers
***************************************************************************
The next European Space Weather Week will take place in Brugge/Bruges, Belgium, from Monday 15th November to Friday 19th November 2010.
Abstract submission and registration are now open!
This year, the ESWW will again adopt the central aim of bringing together diverse communities working on all aspects of space weather from key research developments through to end user needs. Recent space weather related actions in the framework of the ESA Space Situational Awareness programme and the EC´s 7th Framework Programme will be a key topic, as will targeted sessions covering spacecraft environments and effects, recent advances in space weather modelling, new space weather products and tools and new observing strategies for heliospheric phenomena. The meeting will also include a number of hands-on splinter sessions and will explore community development through several dedicated business meetings.
This meeting is being jointly organised by the Belgian Solar-Terrestrial Center of Excellence (STCE), ESA, the Space Weather Working Team and the COST ES0803 communities. The local organisation is done by the STCE and the Royal Observatory of Belgium (ROB). This event will build on the advances made during previous European Space Weather Weeks and preceding ESA Space Weather Applications Workshops.
Organisation:
The meeting will centre on 5 open sessions that address a number of topical themes:
Session 1: SSA Space Weather in Support of European Critical Infrastructure
Session 2: Spacecraft Environments and Effects
Session 3: Tracking Heliospheric Phenomena: New Observing Strategies
Session 4: Space Weather Products and Services
Session 5: Space Weather Models: From Research to Applications
Each session will be divided into oral and poster session with plenty of time devoted to discussion. Contributed papers are welcome to each of the 5 sessions. The oral presentations will cover a range of scientific and applications related themes and will consist of both invited and contributed papers. Service user contributions are welcome and encouraged.
Business meetings:
A key part of the European Space Weather Weeks are the business meetings. These meetings provide the opportunity for interested participants to meet in smaller groups and address key issues in a style that complements the open format of the plenary sessions. These meetings take the form of working meetings with reports produced and actions taken by the participants. Time during the ESWW7 schedule will be set aside for all splinter meeting convenors to report the main conclusions of the meetings to the full workshop.
Following the call for splinter meeting proposals earlier this year, the splinter meeting agenda is now online via: http://sidc.oma.be/esww7
Special Events:
15th November: The ESWW keynote lecture will take place prior to the welcome reception and will again address a topical subject given by a renowned expert in the field.
16th November: A scientific debate will take place following the day’s normal sessions. A panel of experts will discuss: “Human exploration of space: what are the challenges, risks and benefits?”
This year’s event will also include a space weather fair, where users and service providers will have the opportunity to interact in an informal working environment.
For more information about these events, please check the conference website for regular updates.
Abstract Submission:
Online abstract submission is now open via the official conference website:
Poster contributions are welcome to all of the above sessions.
