Description
It is a well-established fact that the magnetised plasma in the solar atmosphere is filled with waves. From standing waves in closed magnetic structures to propagating waves that can reach the solar wind, observations have shown them crossing and linking together the different layers of the solar atmosphere. Focus has been placed on their potential role in heating the atmosphere and driving the solar wind and on their extensive use as tools for plasma diagnostics in coronal seismology.
This session proposes to bring together scientists working on models and observations of waves in the solar atmosphere. We will focus on the interplay between the waves and the atmospheric layers, on energy dissipation and on linking observations to theory. We aim to encourage dialogue between scientists observing waves and the modellers and promote the feedback between their respective areas that will help improve our understanding of this crucial research topic.
