COST Action MP1104, WG2 meeting: Theory and Modelling of polarisation in astrophysics

The first meeting of the Working Group 2 (WG2) of the COST Action MP 1104 will take place in Prague from May 5 till May 8,
2014.

The meeting aims at in-depth discussions between researchers studying the complex physics of the interaction of radiation and
matter in magnetised plasmas, the generation and transfer of polarized radiation, and those developing and implementing
efficient numerical methods for making feasible realistic numerical simulations.

The following topics will be discussed:

(1) Physical mechanisms that produce/modify polarised radiation

(2) Theories of Spectral Line Polarisation

(3) Numerical Radiative Transfer

(4) Self-consistent modeling of polarisation in astrophysical plasmas

(5) The inversion problem: from the observed polarisation to the physical
conditions

Please, note that the number of participants is limited to 33. Beyond the
SOC members, the remaining participants will be selected by the SOC from
those who registered, on the basis of their abstracts and present research
activity. A significant number of the participants should be PhD students
and post-docs working in the field.
