Fall AGU Session SH06: Coronal Prominence Cavities
Please note the abstract deadline is 2 September!
Prominences in the corona are often observed surrounded by extended dark cavities, which provide clues to coronal MHD equilibria and to the destabilizing processes that drive CMEs. The magnetic structure of prominences and their cavities also has implications for their thermal and dynamic properties. The advent of new coronal and prominence magnetic field observations, high resolution soft-X-ray and extreme-ultraviolet observations, and coronal observations from multiple vantage points, allows the details of cavities and their connections to prominences to be probed as never before. We invite contributions that use these new observations and/or recent advances in modeling, to yield information about the role of cavities in fundamental processes of magnetic energy storage and release.
