IAGA 2013 Session on Waves in the Outer Solar Atmosphere
(International Association of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy)
The wealth of incredible observations from the Hinode and SDO spacecraft as well as those from a host of new ground-based imaging platforms have highlighted the need to extend our study of wave species in the solar atmosphere. Do plasma (magnetohydrodynamic) waves compete with magnetic reconnection in the transport of energy through the outer atmosphere? Where and how are waves generated and eventually dissipated? Do waves take part in the global communication of space weather events? Come take part in a lively discussion on the detection and impact of waves in the outer solar atmosphere in a beautiful part of the world. We welcome contributions from observers, theorists, and modelers alike.

Session 4.2: Wave Propagation in the Outer Solar Atmosphere
Abstract: In recent years wave heating and acceleration mechanism have come to the fore in solar physics following a dramatic increase in observational capabilities. This session will discuss wave and quasi-periodic phenomena as they are observed throughout the outer solar atmosphere. We would like to explore the large variety of drivers and coupling mechanisms for these phenomena as well as making a careful assessment of their energy content and dissipation mechanisms in open and closed magnetic topologies.
Session Conveners: Scott W. McIntosh, Ineke De Moortel, Takeru Suzuki
