CHIANTI v.7.1 released

We would like to announce the release of version 7.1 of the CHIANTI database for astrophysical spectroscopy.

The main feature of CHIANTI Version 7.1 is the inclusion of a large number of configurations to the atomic models of Fe VIII to XIV. These configurations give rise to a forest of spectral lines in the 50-170 A wavelength range that contribute significantly to the total radiative
output of the Sun at those wavelengths. Also, they give rise to several strong lines that are currently neglected by spectral codes, and provide significant contributions to the SDO/AIA bandpasses centered at 94A and 131A.

Additional data for a few more ions are included. New element abundance data sets are provided, and improved recombination rates are included and used to provide a new set of CHIANTI ionization equilibria (chianti.ioneq file).

If you use CHIANTI through SolarSoft that is automatically mirrored, the update will occur automatically within the next few days. Otherwise, you will need to manually update your the SolarSoft directories.

If you use CHIANTI through the stand-alone tar file, we recommend that you download and install the new tar file in your CHIANTI directories. The new tar file can be found at our new web site location:

http://www.chiantidatabase.org/

The ChiantiPy software suite can be found at

http://sourceforge.net/projects/chiantipy/

If you have any questions, problems, suggestions regarding CHIANTI, we are always glad to hear from you. The CHIANTI team has now set up a Google Group , which is used by the
team to send new announcements about CHIANTI and is also a place where users can post comments or questions. Once you have joined the group, questions or comments can be sent to chianti@googlegroups.com .

In order to join the CHIANTI Google Group, please send an e-mail to Peter Young . He will then send an invitation for you to join the group.
The group works as follows: when you accept the group invitation, your name and e-mail address are stored in the Google group account, and all future messages posted to the group will automatically be forwarded to your e-mail address.

If you prefer to send your question just to the CHIANTI team, there is also a chianti_help e-mail
address that will circulate your message only to the team members.

Regards,
Giulio Del Zanna for the CHIANTI team
