Colleagues may be interested in the opportunity to showcase their science or technology work at next year’s summer exhibition at the Royal Society, London.
It runs from 30 June – 6 July 2014, and, while visited by the general public, also aims at Government, journalists, Parliamentarians, and senior scientists from other disciplines than your own. Work on such an exhibition stand can also contribute to the personal development and training of your research staff, enhancing communication skills and hearing views from the public, MPs, etc.
The Society give attendance figures as typically 10,000 visitors plus ‘tens of thousands online’, and 2,000 secondary school students.
STFC’s Public Engagement programme can provide a special grant of up to £7.0K for the costs for exhibits in the STFC science or technology areas. This would be on the basis of a simple one page case for support (also stating that the funds could not be sourced from other collaborators) and block-heading budget sent to STFC PE after acceptance from the Royal Society (the exhibition is competitive). Payment will be via an invoice with a short report sent to STFC PE just after the event itself. STFC may also be able to advise, or help-in-kind, concerning artefacts, images, models, literature, etc.
The closing date for applications to the Royal Society is Monday 23 September 2013.
