Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF)

Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF)

In June and July this year, STFC ran a series of community meetings which:

• provided information about the current development of the GCRF and Newton Fund;

• gave an overview of STFC’s strategy for use of the allocated funding and how it plans to support the
community to access the unallocated funding; and

• Sought input from the STFC community on ideas for ODA research opportunities to access funding which can be fed into scoping activities for calls.

RCUK has now launched the first collective GCRF call “Growing research capability to meet the challenges faced by developing countries”. The call document is at http://www.rcuk.ac.uk/documents/documents/gcrfgrowgccalldocument-pdf/ . The closing date for registering an intention to submit is 25 October 2016.

Background information about GCRF can be found at http://www.rcuk.ac.uk/funding/gcrf/ .

Please also note that RCUK are running a twitter chat on Wednesday 28 September 2-3pm to give the community an opportunity to ask the RCUK GCRF programme team questions about this current call. You can follow the conversation on the day via Twitter using the hashtag #GCRF and following Research Councils UK twitter account @research_uk. If you are not an active twitter user you can still follow the conversation online www.twitter.com/#gcrf and email communications@rcuk.ac.uk with your questions using the subject ‘live GCRF twitter chat’ please make it clear in your email if you would like to remain anonymous.

More details of the twitter chat are at http://www.rcuk.ac.uk/media/news/160922/

As well as the Collective RCUK GCRF, individual research councils are running separate GCRF calls: STFC will be issuing a call for GCRF foundation awards later this autumn – we will keep you informed of this once we have finalised the call details.
