Joint UK/US initiatives in space weather

The recent rise in solar activity has been accompanied by a surge in interest in space weather and its associated economic and societal impacts. Both US and UK governments recognise that there is a strong need for space weather forecasting and that significant benefits are
to be had from collaborative projects. In light of this, a series of joint UK/US workshops are underway which have so far been attended by scientists, research funders, and government agencies. The two workshops held so far have addressed key research and infrastructures that are required for operational space weather forecasting.

A Wiki site has been established to communicate the workshop findings to a wider audience and can be found here:

The workshops are organised by the FCO Science & Innovation Network and form part of the wider programme of activity in which a UK strategy for space weather is being developed and a joint NOAA/ Met Office agreement has been signed to improve operational space weather forecasting. Updates will continue to be available on the Wiki.
