Potential UK Co-Investigator roles on JUICE

ESA intend to announce the instrument payload selection for JUICE following its SPC meeting on 21/22 February. The UK Space Agency anticipates that following this announcement, opportunities for UK Co-I involvement on instruments led by other national partners may emerge. The Agency recognises that any new instrument consortia will, of necessity, be formed very quickly once the selection is known, and recommends that any potential opportunities are identified as soon as possible after the ESA announcement. Potential Instrument Co-Is who would be seeking UK Space Agency support in relation to an existing collaborative relationship with another national partner, for a unique and critical Co-I role for the UK, should contact Caroline Harper at the UK Space Agency to discuss SoI submission. You are advised to do so as soon as possible after the outcome of the instrument selection is known, and by no later than 8 March 2013.

The Agency’s Science Programmes Advisory Committee will consider any requests for support in the context of the UK science return and affordability of the opportunities, in consultation with STFC’s Science Board.

This will inform the Agency’s decision-making process concerning the possible support for UK co-I involvement on JUICE, and will facilitate a timely decision following the announcement on payload selection.

Any potential involvement will need a letter of endorsement from the relevant instrument PI.
