RACHEL WALLIS [nee HOOD] 1982 – 2013

RACHEL WALLIS [nee HOOD] 1982 – 2013

I would like to thank all the people who have emailed with messages of support and sympathy. Since it is only some people that are aware of our sad loss, I thought it might be appropriate to spread the unfortunate news more widely to all my colleagues and friends across the world.
Our daughter, Rachel, died on Friday 8 November 2013 aged 31. For the past 30 months, she had been suffering from cancer. She was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in April 2011, one month before her wedding, and she defeated this 9 months later. However, within 3 months of being given the all clear, they detected leukaemia cells in her blood. Despite 3 courses of chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant, the leukaemia remained. She was admitted to hospital on Tuesday 5 November 2013 with an infection and it developed into pneumonia. She died peacefully, in no distress, with her husband, Mike, my wife, Bea, and myself by her side.
If anybody wishes to make a donation to charity that would be much appreciated. There are two specific charities that we are supporting. Her husband, Mike, is raising money for the charity York Against Cancer, http://www.justgiving.com/RachelHWallis.
Our younger son, Graeme, is running in the London marathon 2014 to raise money for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research and he has a webpage at http://www.justgiving.com/Graeme-Hood1. Our elder son, Alistair, is running for the same charity in the Manchester marathon 2014 (aiming for a target time of 3 hours) and details about his fund raising will only be available later.

Thank you.

Alan & Bea Hood
