Colleagues may be interested in an opportunity to spend a short time with an MP or senior Government official, through the Royal Society’s Pairing Scheme for MPs, Civil Servants and Scientists. Applications are now open to scientists with an interest in science policy, a proven ability to communicate their research and at least two years of post-PhD or equivalent professional research experience. The deadline for applications is Monday 26 August 2013.
More information at: http://royalsociety.org/training/pairing-scheme/ . STFC-related researchers have participated previously and report good benefits for both sides. Dr Kate Lancaster (then at STFC’s Central Laser Facility) worked with Anne Snelgrove MP and said “I can now see how important science is for making policies, even those that are not directly associated with science and technology issues.”
Any questions on the scheme and applications can be sent through to public.affairs@royalsociety.org (Sarah Buckman, Head of Scientific Engagement there).
