The Solar Atmospheric Modelling Suite (SAMS)

We wanted to announce to the UK solar community the exciting news that the Solar Atmospheric Modelling Suite project (SAMS for short) has been funded by STFC as part of their new large award scheme. The website for the project is here: https://sams-project-uk.github.io/ (this is still in early stages of construction but it will become a repository for everything associated with the code).

This is a big project that involves researchers at Exeter, Cambridge, Sheffield and Warwick to build an open access, open source modelling suite that can perform state of the art radiative MHD simulations of the solar atmosphere. As part of this project we will seek a wide range of community engagement which will span from providing oversight on the project, providing input on what you would like the code to achieve, road-testing the code and contributing your own modules. We plan a number of workshops to train the community on the code and underlying physics over the course of the project and we really look forward to everyone’s involvement. Some postdoc posts on this project should be advertised soon.
