Topical Issue of Solar Physics on “Solar Origins of Space Weather and Space Climate”

We solicit manuscripts on this general subject for inclusion in a Topical Issue of Solar Physics. Please, submit statements of interest (SOI) with a tentative title, abstract, author list, and three suggestions for referees (preferably with e-mail) to spaceweatherti@gmail.com. The deadline for SOIs is June 30 2012, and the deadline for manuscript submission is 30 August 2012.

This Topical Issue is an outgrowth of the 26th NSO workshop “Solar Origins of Space Weather and Space Climate: Connecting the Interior to the Corona”, which was held at the National Solar Observatory at Sacramento Peak, New Mexico in May 2012. (http://www.nso.edu/workshops/2012). The Topical Issue is not a conference proceedings, and it is not limited to research presented at the workshop. All submissions must be completed original papers that meet the regular quality of the Journal. The Topical Issue will start off with several invited reviews to summarize the subject and frame the work in the research papers which follow. Please consult Solar Physics, 277, 2012 for a recent Topical Issue. Topics to be included in the Topical Issue include:

– Understanding the solar cycle: predicting the long-term behavior of the Sun
– Active region emergence: how, when and where?
– The role of surface magnetic activity in space weather and space climate
– The role of filaments and coronal holes in space weather
– Space weather effects of solar flares and CME’s
– From predicting solar activity to forecasting space weather

In order to respect the other contributors, we will be strict with deadlines for submission, refereeing, and proofing. Papers that are late, either because of delays in submission or protracted refereeing, will appear individually in later issues of the Journal.

For further information, and submission of statements of interest, please contact spaceweatherti@gmail.com
