UKSP/MIST: List of STFC Introductory Summer School Hosts – Request for Information

Dear Colleagues,

As you know, the STFC Introductory Summer School is hosted by a different UK institution each year. In previous years, the UKSP and MIST councils have maintained a forward-looking list of potential hosts and bids, typically covering a five- to ten-year period.

The current list of hosts extends up to 2029 and can be found here:
https://uksolphys.org/wp-content/uploads/SummerSchoolGuidelines_2023_2029.pdf

As this list is now approaching its end, we invite members of the UKSP and MIST communities to inform us if they are planning to bid to host the STFC Introductory Summer School in the years 2030–2034.

If you are considering submitting a bid, please email both Malcolm Druett (m.druett@sheffield.ac.uk) and Matthew Brown (m.brown.12@bham.ac.uk) by 1 March 2026.

Based on the responses received, the UKSP and MIST councils will compile an updated list of potential hosts. This will also allow us to help ensure that the Summer School continues to rotate across different geographical locations within the UK and that hosting responsibilities are shared equitably between solar physics and MIST institutions.

Additionally, if you have interest in proposing an advanced Summer School application, please reach out to us.

Kind regards,
Malcolm Druett and Matthew Brown
on behalf of the UKSP and MIST Councils
