Waves in the Corona – Come Surf With Us!

The Coronal Multichannel Polarimeter (CoMP) data archive is open to all and there are LOTS of waves to be studied and characterized, so please join in!

CoMP is a versatile imaging spectropolarimer deployed at the Mauna Loa Solar Observatory since May 2010. The instrument performs wavelength scans of the Fe XIII 10747, 10798 and He I 10830Å lines in intensity, linear, and circular polarization from which intensity, velocity, linewidth, and magnetism studies can be undertaken. These items are discussed in the CoMP user guide (http://download.hao.ucar.edu/pub/mscott/CoMP/CoMPL2DataGuide.pdf).

We take data as often as possible with the instrument. Follow the link (http://mlso.hao.ucar.edu/mlso_data_COMP_2013.html) and you can navigate to the CoMP calendar where summary images and movies are available.

Over the past year we have been working on the data pipeline so that we can share this rich data set with the broader community. We are only too happy to modify observing plans for dedicated science objectives, and also to help with deeper investigations into the line profiles etc. Please get in touch if you have any questions or difficulties.
