PDRA post in Solar Physics, Queen’s University Belfast

School of Mathematics and Physics, Queen’s University Belfast

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship position in the area of Solar Physics for up to 3 years in the first instance. The post is located in the Astrophysics Research Centre (ARC) within the School of Mathematics and Physics. The successful candidate will undertake research in the physics of the solar atmosphere and examine, through observational and/or theoretical techniques, the role magneto-hydrodynamic wave phenomena plays in energy transport through the Sun’s atmospheric layers.

Applicants must have a PhD in Astrophysics either awarded or submitted by the time of taking up the post. Experience is essential in either (i) the reduction, analysis and interpretation of solar observations from satellite-borne or ground-based instruments, or (ii) the development of magneto-hydrodynamic wave theory and/or modelling of the solar atmosphere, as are a number of high quality refereed publications in the research field commensurate with stage of career. Experience in the analysis and interpretation of wave phenomena observed in the Sun’s atmosphere, or the unification of magneto-hydrodynamic wave theory with numerical modelling techniques that can be tested against high resolution solar datasets, is desirable.
