An 18-month postdoctoral position is available as part of the collaborative research project entitled Advanced Computational Models to facilitate Solar Activity and Space Weather Predictions between Institut de Recherche en Planétologie et Astrophysique (IRAP) in Toulouse (France) and the Center for Excellence in Space Sciences, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (CESSI – IISER) in Kolkata (India), funded by the Indo-French Centre for the Promotion of Advanced Research (IFCPAR/CEFIPRA).
The project involves multi-dimensional numerical modeling of solar activity, including physical processes such as dynamo action, convection, rotation and magnetic flux emergence. The project is also dedicated to applying modern data assimilation techniques into solar dynamo models, aiming towards realistic predictions of the characteristics of future magnetic solar cycles.
The successful candidate will join the Solar and Stellar Physics group (http://www.irap.omp.eu/en/research/research-groups/pse) of IRAP (Toulouse, France) to work with Laurène Jouve and will travel regularly to Kolkata (India) to collaborate with Dibyendu Nandi. Applicants with interest and/or expertise in one or more of the aspects mentioned above are encouraged to apply. The position is full-time for a period of 18 months, with a starting date in the period October 2015 – January 2016. IFCPAR/CEFIPRA aims at promoting collaborations between France and India and thus at encouraging Indian students to apply for postdoctoral positions in France. For an Indian national, a salary of 1850 Euros per month will be provided by the IFCPAR/CEFIPRA.
Please send a Curriculum Vitae, a statement of research interest and 2 letters of reference before May, 1st, 2015 to Laurène Jouve, France (ljouve@irap.omp.eu) and Dibyendu Nandi, India (dnandi@iiserkol.ac.in).
Potential applicants are welcome to contact Laurène Jouve (ljouve@irap.omp.eu) for informal enquiries.
