Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the Astrophysics Group in DAMTP.
The successful candidate will work with Professor Michael Proctor FRS and Professor Gordon Ogilvie on a project funded by STFC, as described below. The position is available immediately, but the start date is flexible and could be delayed at least until October 2014 and possibly later. Applicants should have, or be about to obtain, a PhD in a relevant area of theoretical astrophysics, fluid dynamics or magnetohydrodynamics, and have an established track record of original research and experience of working in collaboration.
The project is in two parts. The primary aim is to develop a numerical model of the solar dynamo process based on the interaction of turbulence and shear. The secondary, independent aim is to use wavelet transform methods to reveal features of photospheric convection on different scales, in collaboration with staff in the Department of Engineering.
Knowledge of MHD is not essential but experience with computational fluid dynamics would be an advantage. Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for up to 3 years in the first instance. For further informations see: http://www.jobs.cam.ac.uk/job/3855/
