My name is Suzana de Souza e Almeida Silva, and I wish to apply to be a PDRA member of the UKSP council, where I intend to work on promoting UKSP science, representing the interests of our community to the UKRI and general public. I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to the consolidation and expansion of UKSP communications.
I have an interdisciplinary scientific background, as I came from gravitational physics, and currently, I apply cutting-edge data analysis methodologies to study the Sun; thereby, my experience can provide a fresh perspective and help strengthen the communication between UKSP and other scientific communities. Our community is still unaware of many pioneering techniques from different research areas that could be useful for solar physics. Moreover, UKSP science also develops interesting methodologies that are not properly advertised and I intend to change this. I am also passionate in ensuring the promotion of UKSP science among low-income families, as my outreach activities have been proven to encourage such young people to pursue STEM degrees.
I have extensive outreach experience that has led me to develop the necessary skills to efficiently “translate” scientific research and make it attractive to the public, which is essential when informing the government about our community’s achievements and the importance of our research. I would like to further develop the representation of UKSP, and I believe that my international experience at different research institutes (INPE, MPS, ITA, UoS) has provided me with the proper listening skills to understand and represent the interests of our community.
Thereby, I hope to get the opportunity to serve as a PDRA member of the UKSP council for the next three years, and I feel I could strongly contribute.
